Description
This beautiful wood carving is made through a process known as Intarsia, an ancient art of making pictorial mosaics by laying precious and exotic woods onto a solid wooden surface. In this particular piece, seven different types of wood have been put to use.
The uniform shape plaque (which measures 17cm x 17cm) makes it easy to hang on any flat surface of your choosing, such as a wall, wood panel, or door. Be sure to place it in a spot where it catches good light, the better to appreciate those multi-tonal wooden hues.
The Trinity knot, which adorns the corners of this plaque, is one of the most common kinds of Celtic knot, easily identified by its three distinct points. In the Christian tradition, these points are thought to represent the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, whereas in pagan understanding, they’re analogous to the power of water, air, and earth.
